Bernhard Garside, aka Bertie G

Basingstoke Community Radio

About Me
I am a retired Civil Servant who has always loved music. As a young teenager I used to listen to Luxembourg Radio on longwave (No FM in those days!) on a small radio under my pillow at night. Those tunes laid the foundation for my musical tastes and love of good tunes.
I’ve been in bands but I was asked to do a guest show on a popular Spanish speaking radio station a few years back and played the music that I loved. The feedback was fantastic so I was given a regular slot for a while and I was hooked. Fast forward to 2022 and retirement found me in the Highlands of Scotland, where I joined Nevis Radio in Fort William for a 3-hour show on Sunday afternoon/evening and “Sunday Tea with Bertie G” was born. I was in my element and so when we moved back to the Basingstoke area, I looked around for a similar gig and was delighted when Basingstoke Radio gave me a similar opportunity, again on Sunday afternoon.
Hobbies
I am a keen golfer but also love to SCUBA dive when opportunities arise. I have also arrived very late to caravans and love spending time away with the wife and the two dogs.
Fun Fact
I broke Gary Glitter’s leg when I was at university.
