Basingstoke Community Radio

Now retired after a lifetime in the IT sector,I've been with BCR since March 2022. As well as being a trustee and one of the management team who manage the running of the station on a day-by-day basis, my main responsibility is all things technical which could be anything from hanging a picture on the wall to installing and connecting a studio. I occasionally stand in for other presenters too.

My love of radio goes back to my teenage years and the arrival of the pirate stations (before you ask I was a Radio London man!) At that time I was heavily involved in the theatre too, where after initial training through a summer school scheme I enjoyed a lot of work, backstage in the theatre, everything from stage management to set building, but particularly lighting and sound. I was the go-to man for music at parties and whilst I amassed the kit to be a mobile DJ, I never got a paid gig.

My highlights at the station to date include fitting out our outside broadcast trailer, moving us in to the Clock Tower, the implementation of our Beacon Project and building/equipping the environment for Studio 4 Live. Coming up in 2026 I'll be upgrading the older studios and looking for a replacement for our iutside broadcast trailer
